At Paraclete Christian Learning Academy, our approach to early childhood education begins with a simple conviction: God has spoken, and His Word is sufficient to guide how we teach, shepherd, and care for children. Scripture reveals the nature of God, the design of humanity, the purpose of authority, and the path of growth — and therefore forms the foundation of all instruction at PCLA.

We believe every child is created by God with purpose and eternal value (Psalm 139:13–16), yet born with a heart in need of shepherding and direction (Proverbs 22:15). Because of this, early education is not merely the transfer of information but the shaping of a child’s heart, habits, and understanding of truth. Our teaching is aimed at fostering both wisdom and worship — helping children learn about God’s world while learning to love the God who made it.

Our biblical framework reflects the theology of Community of Faith Bible Church and the biblical counseling model that emphasizes heart transformation through the Word of God. We teach and guide children with grace, structure, clarity, and compassion because Scripture calls us to instruct the young in a manner that reflects God’s character (Ephesians 6:4; Colossians 3:21). We avoid methods rooted in secular psychology or behaviorism; instead, we pursue heart-focused guidance, helping children understand the “why” behind their actions and directing them toward obedience that honors God.

Teaching at PCLA is an act of discipleship. Whether children are learning letters, sharing toys, resolving conflict, or cleaning up, every moment provides an opportunity to practice biblical principles—love, kindness, patience, diligence, gratitude, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). Our goal is not outward compliance, but inward growth rooted in truth, ultimately pointing each child to the Lord.

Scripture teaches that children observe, imitate, listen, and respond to the instruction and example of those in authority (Proverbs 1:8; Luke 6:40). Because children, like all people, are born with hearts inclined toward their own way (Proverbs 22:15), teaching must reach beyond outward behavior. God also created children with a natural curiosity about His world. Hands-on activities, purposeful play, outdoor exploration, and simple projects allow children to discover and interact with what God has made. These experiences are never self-directed or value-neutral; they are intentionally guided by teachers who point children toward thankfulness, humility, cooperation, patience, and responsibility. Exploration becomes an avenue for discipleship—not merely an outlet for expression.

Verbal instruction remains essential. Scripture calls us to teach diligently (Deuteronomy 6:6–7), helping children understand both what to do and why it honors the Lord. Our teachers use clear, age-appropriate language, gentle correction, and biblical reminders to shape attitudes and actions. When conflict arises or a child is tempted to act sinfully, we come alongside them to address the heart, provide instruction, and help them take steps of obedience.

Because children naturally imitate those who train them, our teachers model Christlike character—patience, humility, diligence, kindness, and joyful obedience. “Everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40). This truth gives weight to everything from our tone of voice to the way we serve, speak, and work throughout the day.

We work closely with families—the primary disciplers of their children (Deuteronomy 6:6–7)—through consistent communication via ProCare, daily updates, and personal conversations. This partnership provides steadiness and continuity between home and school so that children experience clear, unified expectations.

Parents receive regular communication about what their children are learning, including the character qualities emphasized in class, the Scriptures being taught, and the routines that help children practice kindness, diligence, responsibility, and joyful obedience. CHARACTER FORMATION & HEART DEVELOPMENT

At Paraclete Christian Learning Academy, we believe that true growth involves more than acquiring skills — it includes shaping the heart, forming habits, and learning responses that honor the Lord. Scripture teaches that a child’s actions flow from the heart (Proverbs 4:23), and therefore our teaching addresses not only what children do, but the attitudes and desires that guide their choices.

While every age group has activities appropriate to its developmental stage, the rhythm of the day follows the same core pattern: clear instruction, meaningful practice, guided play, and opportunities to grow in Christlike character.

A Welcoming Start to the Day

Children begin with a calm arrival routine where they are greeted by name, guided to store their belongings, and welcomed into simple morning activities. This helps children transition smoothly from home to school and prepares them for an orderly, attentive start. Teachers use this time to build connection, observe needs, and create a warm, steady foundation for the day.

Bible Time and Instruction From Scripture

Each morning includes a brief Bible lesson where children hear Scripture, sing, pray, and learn simple truths about God’s character and His design for obedience, kindness, and gratitude. Lessons are short, memorable, and supported by conversation throughout the day.

Teacher-Led Learning

Children participate in structured, teacher-led lessons such as:

Instruction is intentionally brief and interactive, with opportunities for hands-on practice and simple repetition that helps children understand and apply new concepts.

Teachers also assist children with restroom needs as appropriate for their age and stage, following all licensing and hygiene standards to ensure safety and dignity throughout the day.

Outdoor Play and Gross Motor Development

Children spend time outdoors each day (weather permitting) in a safe, supervised environment. Outdoor play gives children opportunities for:

Afternoon Learning and Continued Practice

After rest, children engage in additional center activities, simple review games, hands-on projects, read-alouds, and small-group instruction. These activities reinforce the morning’s learning and give children another opportunity to practice good habits and attitudes.

A Peaceful End to the Day

Children finish the day with simple activities, a brief review of what they learned, and a warm transition back to their parents. Teachers offer short updates and observations to keep families encouraged and informed.

CURRICULUM TOOLS & ENRICHMENT

At Paraclete Christian Learning Academy, we use a selection of high-quality curriculum tools and enrichment experiences that support our instructional goals and reinforce the biblical truths children learn each day. These tools do not shape our philosophy; rather, they serve as resources that help teachers offer structured, age-appropriate learning opportunities in every classroom.

Our curriculum approach is simple: we teach from Scripture and use educational tools that help children practice foundational skills with clarity, purpose, and joy.

Abeka and Early Academic Foundations

For literacy, early math, and basic readiness skills, our teachers use Abeka, a well-established Christian curriculum known for its clear instruction and orderly progression of concepts. Abeka supports:

phonemic awareness
early literacy and pre-reading
number recognition and counting
handwriting readiness
vocabulary development

Teachers present these concepts in short, guided lessons, allowing children to participate and grow confidently.

Frog Street for Age-Appropriate Learning Experiences

In addition to Abeka, PCLA uses selected elements of Frog Street, a structured early childhood curriculum that provides teachers with high-quality materials for:

early language exposure
age-appropriate songs, stories, and guided activities

We use Frog Street as a tool, not a philosophical foundation. Teachers adapt the materials to support purposeful play, reinforce routines, and provide engaging group experiences — always under a biblical framework and teacher-led instruction.

Frog Street offers excellent classroom activities and materials, and our teachers select the parts that best support our structured, teacher-led approach. We use these tools to enrich hands-on learning, while Scripture and our educational philosophy continue to guide all instruction.

Bible Learning & Theology for Little Hearts

To support simple, doctrinally sound understanding of Scripture, our classrooms use Tiny Theologians and other age-appropriate biblical resources. These tools help children:

learn attributes of God
memorize short passages
understand obedience, kindness, and gratitude
connect Bible truths to daily life

Teachers weave Scripture naturally throughout the day.

Hands-On Learning and Exploration

To strengthen early skills, teachers use supplemental tools such as:
